Time Management Strategies

This workshop will focus on ways to arrange and manage your time in an academic setting. We will discuss: goals/priorities, academic expectation in terms of time spent studying outside of the classroom, utilizing the course syllabus, and use of some type of planner.

Study Skill Strategies

This workshop will focus on strategies that will help you learn and retain information. We will talk about: where and when you study and identify time wasters. We will discuss ways in which you can increase your retention and eventual recall of information using a variety of study tools and techniques.

TRANSFERmation

Are you a new Transfer student? If so, then you need to know about TRANSFERmation. This session incorporates social and academic success strategies for students who recently transferred to UB. This will be an informal, interactive discussion among new and former UB transfer students as well as academic advising staff. Tips for academic success and social transition will be shared and all of your questions about where to go for help, how to get involved, or good places to go off-campus will be answered. Please join us so that you can begin making the most out of UB today!

Winning Through Connections

This workshop is for first year students, and is designed to emphasize the importance of making connections at UB. These connections to key people and places on campus often contribute to students’ success. Students will learn the importance of: establishing working relationships with faculty and professional staff, identifying tutors in traditional and non-traditional ways, the benefits of involvement in clubs/organizations and campus jobs, and establishing connections with peers.

Alternative Credit

After enrollment at UB, students may be awarded credit toward their university degree through methods other than UB course work. Examples are proficiency examinations and military training. In this workshop, all of the alternative credit types accepted by UB will be reviewed. In some instances, this credit may shorten the time required to complete a degree.

MAJOR Decisions: Choosing an Academic Program That’s Right for You

Confused about choosing a major? Think that once you choose a major you’re locked into a specific career for life? Interested to learn common myths and realities that often shape students’ decisions when choosing a major? Come and gain valuable tips on navigating this process and discover the information you need to make good choices regarding majors, minors, and other academic opportunities at UB.

Non-Matriculated Students

Non-matriculated students can meet in a group setting to discuss applying to UB academic majors, and other concerns. Attendees will become familiar with new Non-matriculated Policy.

Grades Guaranteed

This workshop is designed to help students develop strategies and effective study techniques as a means for achieving their academic goals. For students who may be experiencing academic difficulty, the workshop will help to identify problem areas and recommend appropriate adjustments for academic success.

UB Majors and Careers Night

This event is for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who want to explore how UB’s academic choices relate to future career plans. Meet with advisors from 80+ academic majors and UB Alumni in a variety of professions. Join us for food, prizes, and great networking opportunities with UB faculty, staff and alumni!

How to Register for Classes

This workshop will focus on the tools that will be used in the process of registering for courses for the upcoming semester. We will show how to use the Undergraduate Catalog and DARS as planning tools; the Class Schedule to find courses; and Web Registration. We will also look at SRC Calendars to find when this semester’s grades will be posted, and discuss why schedules should be adjusted based on grades.
