Transfer Peer Mentor Program

This program is designed especially for new transfer students in their first semester at UB. The idea is to pair up new students with returning UB students who had transferred to UB. It is a great way to get to know other students and learn all about the student culture on and off campus. There are plenty of campus faculty and staff willing to help new students but there is nothing like getting the student perspective from one of your peers. Plus, it's fun and rewarding! Honors Opportunities

Tau Sigma: In 2001, UB established a chapter of the National Transfer Honor Society - TAU SIGMA. You will be eligible for membership in this honor society if you complete 12 or more credits in your first UB semester and earn a 3.5 or greater GPA. You will pay one-time membership dues of $45 and each spring new members are inducted in a formal ceremony. Additionally, Tau Sigma continues activities throughout the year so that members can get involved in the campus and local community and help new transfer students transition to UB life. Tau Sigma is run by a few elected student leaders and it is a great way to get involved, meet other students and develop leadership skills. For more information visit the Tau Sigma National Honor Society and the University at Buffalo chapter websites.

Advanced Honors: The Advanced Honors Program was created for students who have outstanding academic records upon the completion of at least 60 college credit hours (transfer work is included). Advanced Honors Scholars receive formal recognition for their exceptional achievements and have the unique opportunity to do advanced, graduate-level research. Working closely with faculty who are experts in their fields, Advanced Honors Scholars carry out research projects that culminate in senior theses of publication quality. The program provides a challenging and diverse academic curriculum; honors course requirements ensure in-depth coverage in the major field, while the breadth requirement provides a balance to avoid over-specialization in one particular area. As a result, Advanced Honors Scholars develop into some of the university's most intellectually independent and ambitious students. In fact, the majority of Advanced Honors Scholars choose to study multiple disciplines and pursue double majors or double degrees.
