FRESHMAN YEAR
- Develop good study habits and earn good grades
- Schedule an appointment with the Pre-Law Advisor
- Become involved with the Pre-Law Student Association or Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity
- Develop a rapport with your Professors
- Begin exploring possible majors
SOPHOMORE YEAR
- Work hard and continue earning good grades
- Schedule at least one appointment with your Pre-Law Advisor
- Attend meetings of the Pre-Law clubs
- Develop a rapport with at least three or four professors
- Apply to your intended major (and minor, if appropriate)
- Consider securing an internship related to the legal profession
JUNIOR YEAR
- Keep studying, earning good grades and building relationships with professors
- Begin preparing for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
- Attend a Law School Forum (click on that link and scroll down to learn more about Law School Forums. Also, check out the Greater Western New York Law School Fairs here)
- Consider securing an internship related to the legal profession
SENIOR YEAR
June
- If fully prepared, consider taking the LSAT
July & August
- Research and visit law schools
- Submit the Dean Certification Release Form to 109 Norton for processing.
September to November
- Register with the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS)
- Take the October LSAT (if not taken in June)
- Forward all undergraduate transcripts to LSDAS (must be official transcripts)
- Request and complete law school applications
- Prepare your personal statement and have it reviewed
- Identify and meet with professors to write letters of recommendation
- Submit Dean Certification forms if not already done so
December
- Take the December LSAT (if not taken in June or October)
- Mail law school applications or complete online when available
January & February
- Monitor your LSDAS file to make sure all items have been submitted
- Complete and submit a FAFSA form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov/
March to May
- When accepted to the school of your choice, submit your deposit and notify all other schools of your decision
- Send a final transcript (showing graduation) to your chosen law school
