Your law school personal statement can be the deciding factor for acceptance. This session will teach you how to write a winning essay that will positively impact your overall law school application.

Professor Charles Carr will be presenting this workshop.  This is a great workshop for students preparing for their upcoming application cycle and tackling one of the key parts of your application.  It’s never too early to start thinking about Personal Statement topics, either, so all are welcome to attend!

Application deadlines

Just a reminder to everyone that application deadlines are right around the corner if not already passed.  If you have questions about the deadlines for schools that you are applying to (or considering applying to) there are of course several ways to find out how late you can get your applications out.  To discover the “official” deadline date, you can simply view the electronic application main menu for that law school in your account.  However, many schools have a somewhat (and sometimes begrudging) flexible deadline for applications received.

Please contact law schools if you have any questions whatsoever about the deadlines for application materials.

For those of you not applying for this upcoming application cycle of 2009, please remember to get your applications out early when you do apply.  An ideal timeline would be to have your applications out no later than Winter Break for the next Fall admission.

“1L of a Ride” Book on helping student prepare for their first year in law school

1L of a Ride 1L of a Ride: A Well-Traveled Professor’s Roadmap to Success in the First Year of Law School is a book written to help students prepare for their first year in law school by a professor with lots of good advice to give. For those of you planning to attend law school this fall this might be a very helpful and entertaining book.  The book hones in what what makes students academically successful their first year, and what it takes and how they should prepare.  With both anecdotes and scientific research, the ideas in this book are both personable and entertaining but also backed up with solid research. Worth a look.

LSAC Forums

Every year the Law School Admissions Council organizes Law School Recruitment Forums for students to meet law school admissions officers from law schools from all over the country, as well as provide some interesting application workshops.   There are a few that would be on the ‘radar screen’ of UB students typically - Washington DC, Boston, New York City are some of the cities these forums are being held over the course of the next half year. Have a look and consider attending one of them!  Keep in mind however that we have our very own Western New York Law School Open House sessions every Fall with lots of law schools attending if you can’t make the long trip to a big city.

LSAT June 2007 Test, Preparation and Additional Study Materials

The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) has the June 2007 LSAT exam available to download.  Given it’s a fairly recent test, it would be a great introduction to what a current LSAT looks like.  This page also has a link to a general overview of the LSAT and some additional study guides.
